North Oldham

On Saturday, Dec. 12th we participated in the Ronald McDonald Charity Classic held annually at Oldham County High School. We played North Oldham in a very high scoring affair and we came away with the win 97-87 in overtime.

In a game we needed to win very badly, we shot outstanding, hitting 11-25 from the 3 point line and 32-40 from the free throw line. In this game we had several outstanding individual performances with 4 double-doubles. Hunter Gary and Tyler Saltsman posted career highs by scoring 32 points a piece. They both had 11 rebounds to go with their points. Aaron Deviney scored 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Aaron also scored the tying bucket on a great move to send the game into overtime. Travis Johnston was the 4th player with a double-double as he scored 13 points and dished out 10 assists. Travis also fouled out with 2:30 to play in regulation with us leading by 5. Our guys lost the lead after that but showed tremendous mental toughness to win going away in overtime without Travis.

Two other players were tremendous for us as well. Brady Clemons keeps getting better every game as he scored 7 points, all in the 4th quarter and OT. He also held North Oldham's best player scoreless in the overtime period. Dylan Vaught also performed very well coming off the bench as he played every minute after Travis fouled out. He contributed 3 points but had a big assist to Aaron Deviney on a basket and took very good care of the ball.

Hunter Gary and Tyler Saltsman were chosen as Co-Players of the Game by K105. Tyler was 6-8 from the 3 point line and Hunter went 18-22 from the free throw line. Both players collected 11 rebounds.

Edmonson County

In our first game vs. Edmonson County on Friday night we lost 72-66. We had a great atmosphere here at Cougar gym but unfortunately our worst shooting performance in some time cost us in the end.

The first half was as close as it could be with both teams trading baskets but EC led 21-20 at the end of one, but then we outscored them 12-11 in the second quarter to even it up at halftime 32-32. The 3rd quarter was the difference in the game as our defense continued to struggle stopping them in their motion offense. Also, our offense was very stagnant as we stood around a lot and didn't get any transition points. At the end of the 3rd quarter EC led 50-42. We continue to struggle from the floor in the 4th quarter but luckily EC helped us out by missing free throws. They were 17-32 from the line for the game.

The big difference in the game was EC shooting 52% to our 37%, but we were only 3-26 from the 3 point line.

Travis Johnston was chosen as the player of the game by K105 by scoring a career high 40 points. Tyler Saltsman continued his great play with a double double getting 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Central Hardin

We beat Central Hardin 47-41 last night to move to 2-1 on the season. It was a tough road game for us and a game that was not pretty to watch but was very fun to win.

We never led in the game until the last 3 minutes. We fell behind 11-10 at the end of one quarter and was down 26-20 at the half. At halftime we spent the majority of the time talking about taking Central's zone but the difference in the game was our team's commitment to holding Central to 2 single digit quarters in the second half. We still didn't make many shots but we did win the quarter with a 12-9 margin.

Going into the 4th quarter we trailed 35-32. During the quarter we got some big plays from Brady Clemons, Tyler Saltsman, Hunter Gary and Travis Johnston. Travis scored 11 points in the quarter and also held Nolan Todd to 2 ft's in the quarter. Brady had a big assist to Tyler and also came away with a steal in the last 15 seconds when Central had a chance to tie the score.

For the game we shot 18-52 from the field to Central Hardin's 15-36. We were out rebounded 32-26 but we forced 25 turnovers while only having 11 of our own.
