1st round of the District Tournament

On Tuesday, Feb. 23rd we played Trinity High School in the first round of the 12th district tournament. We came away with a 67-55 win in Morgantown. The win set up a district championship game vs Edmonson Co. on Thursday, Feb. 25th at 7:00pm.

We came out very well offensively in the first half with Travis Johnston scoring 5 points in a row, but our defense was not very good and allowed a lot of easy points to Trinity. After our quick start offensively, Trinity switched to a zone defense and we couldn't make many 3's. We did manage to take a 17-14 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. The second quarter was pretty ugly and at the half we lead 25-21. Tyler Saltsman scored 7 points in the 1st half to lead us going to halftime. The big reason we were up at half was the offensive rebounding done by Aaron Deviney and Dustin Thomas. We had 12 offensive rebounds in the first half.

In the 3rd quarter we came out much better against the zone and made 4 3's in the period, led by sophomore guard Brady Clemons, who scored 10 points in the quarter. We led 47-36 going into the final quarter.

In the 4th quarter we traded baskets with Trinity and won by 12, 67-55.

For the game we shot a miserable 32% compared to Trinity's 58%. We forced 19 turnovers while only committing 8 ourselves. The big difference came at the foul line as we made 26-33 while Trinity only made 8-12 attempts.

In the second quarter Hunter Gary scored 9 points and Brady Clemons chipped in with 5 as we went to the locker room with a 47-21 lead. Senior Night vs. Ohio County

On Tuesday, Feb. 16th, we played our last home game of the season against the Ohio County Eagles. The Eagles defeated us 91-71 in a game that saw us get behind early and we were never able to dig out of the hole.

We were able to cut the lead to 49-46 with 3.8 seconds in the 3rd quarter but Ohio County made a 3 at the buzzer to push the lead to 6 points. Ohio County had the ball at the beginning of the 4th quarter and completed a 4 point play by making a 3 and the subsequent free throw. The game changed completely on two possessions. We began trapping, pressing and fouling, which were all unsuccessful in our attempt to cut into the lead. Ohio Co. scored 39 points in the 4th quarter to our 25.

John Hardin, Taylor County and Bardstown

Over the last 2 weeks we have played 4 games. In those 4 games we have gone 2-2. We have beaten John Hardin High School, Bardstown High School and lost to Taylor County High School and Ohio County High School.

John Hardin game:
In a game that saw John Hardin play a box and 1 on Travis Johnston for the entire game it was a great win for us. In this game we had to have several players step up and make plays since Travis was being chased everywhere he went on the floor.

It took us a while to get going since we depend so heavily on Travis to get us into everything we do offensively. In the second quarter we got a huge lift when Trey Tinsley came off the bench to make 3 3's but we were still down by 10 at the half. In the second half Hunter Gary and Aaron Deviney carried us to the victory by scoring 18 and 14 points respectively. We won the game 68-64.

For the game Hunter Gary was chosen as the Player of the Game.

We went on the road to Taylor County on Feb. 11th to take on the Cardinals. We lost 57-53. We scheduled this game because we knew how tough of a road game this would be. Taylor County used a 1-3 chaser on Travis for the majority of the game.

Hunter Gary was chosen as the Player of the Game.

We jumped out to a quick lead at the end of the first quarter by the score of 19-4 and that allowed us to play everybody quickly and give everyone a lot of playing time. Hunter Gary scored 8 points in the first quarter and Tyler Saltsman pitched in with 6.

In the second quarter Trey Tinsley scored 8 points and Hunter Gary scored 5 to lead us to a 38-21 halftime lead. We lost some of our defensive intensity in the second quarter but we still won the quarter 19-17.
