Last 3 games

We won 2 and lost 1 over the last week of games.  On Tuesday, Dec. 6, we traveled to Central Hardin to play our first road game of the year.  We lost 63-52 to the Bruins.  We lost this game because of our inability to rebound the ball and get stops on the defensive end against their post players.  We were out rebounded 32-19 including giving up 12 offensive rebounds which resulted in 14 second chance points.  We only had 3 offensive rebounds for the night.  We continued to shoot the ball well from 2 point range by hitting 14/24 for 58%, but only made 3/10 from the 3 point line.  Central Hardin made 22/46 from the field for 48% and 8/18 from 3 point territory for 44%.
We were led by Ollie Roberts' 19 points.  Also in double figures were Brady Clemons with 12 and Ethan Saltsman with 10.

BRECK COUNTY:

On Thursday, Dec. 8th we played at home against the Breck Co. Tigers.  These games are always close as they are one of our biggest rivals in the region.  We came away with a hard fought 58-52 win.  We executed much better down the stretch in this game and that allowed us to come away with a victory.  For the game we shot 43% by hitting 20/47 from the field for 43%, including 6/18 from the 3 point line for 33%.  We out rebounded Breck Co. by 1, 26-25 but we doubled them up on offensive rebounds by getting 8 and only giving up 4.  None of those 4 offensive rebounds came in the second half.  We forced 20 turnovers and committed 14 of our own.

We were led in scoring by Ollie Roberts with 15, Brady Clemons with 11 and Ryne Tinsley with 10. Ollie made it a double double by getting 10 rebounds to lead us.

EDMONSON COUNTY GAME:

In our first game of the season against our biggest rival we came away with a 59-44 win.  We came out very sluggish and fell behind early but closed out the quarter strong to be down 1, 12-11 after the first quarter.  The second quarter was the difference in the game as we connected on 11-12 field goal attempts while holding the Wildcats to 5 points in the quarter.  We outscored them 24-5 to take command of the game.  In the second half we were outscored 26-24 but we played a lot of the last quarter with younger players in the game.

For the game we shot 23/42 from the field for 55% and hit 6/12 from the 3 point line.  We also won the rebounding battle by a convincing 29-18 advantage.  We had 10 offensive rebounds to 5 for the Wildcats.  We forced 21 turnovers and committed 13 of our own.

Daviess County Panthers

In game 2 of the young season we came away with a 67-53 victory over defending regional champs Daviess Co.  The Panthers are also one of the teams picked ahead of us in the pre-season rankings.  We got down early 11-3 but battled back to be down 16-11 at the end of the 1st quarter.  Our defense was excellent for the first 6 minutes of the 2nd quarter which allowed us to go on a 19-4 run to take a 30-20 lead.  However, we relaxed too soon and gave up 10 consecutive points to go into the locker room tied at 30-30.

In the 3rd quarter, we changed to our switching man to man defense and caused some problems for Daviess Co., winning the 3rd quarter 17-6 to talk an 11 point lead into the final quarter.  Our lead fell to 9 points midway through the quarter but we quickly stretched it back up to win by 14 points.  The key to the game was handling their full court pressure.  We committed 15 turnovers but also scored a lot of points off our press offense as we consistently attacked the backside of the press for layups or open jumpers.  Transition defense and transition offense was important to our win as we beat the Panthers down the floor several times throughout the game.

We shot 50% from the field but only made 4 3 pointers for the game.  We shot 66% from the free throw line, pulled down 26 rebounds and had 15 assists for the game.  Daviess Co. shot 39% for the game and made 6/30 3 point attempts.  Daviess Co. committed 17 turnovers and had 29 rebounds.

We were led by Trey Tinsley's 20 points, followed by Ollie Robert's 18.  Ethan Meredith  had double figures with 10 (all coming in the second half).  Ethan Saltsman had 8 and Brady Clemons scored 9.  Ollie led us with 11 rebounds and also led in assists with 5.  The McDonald's Player of the Game was 6'1 senior guard Ethan Meredith, who played very well in the second half after sitting most of the first half in foul trouble.

Next game will be an out of region team as we travel to Central Hardin.  Jv game will start at 5:30 and the varsity will begin at 7:00 cst.

Butler County

In our season opener we came away with a 68-48 win over the Butler Co. Bears.  This was an important game for us not only to get our season off to a great start but to put us at 1-0 in district play.  We got off to a fast start and won the 1st quarter 18-11.  We had six players score in the quarter led by 6'4 junior forward Ethan Saltsman's 6.  Our good defensive effort continued as we built a 35-22 lead going into the locker room at the half.

We were a little sluggish coming out of the locker room but won the quarter to go up by 16 points, 53-37.  We pulled away in the 4th quarter by again holding the Bears to just 11 points in the final quarter and we won by 20.

For the game we shot 57% from the field and 8/19 from the 3 point line.  We struggled from the free throw line shooting just 50% but fortunately with the big lead it didn't come back to hurt us.  Butler Co. shot 17/53 from the field for 32% and just 4/23 from the 3 point line.  We won the rebounding battle 35-30 but we did give up 13 offensive rebounds.  We committed 16 turnovers to Butler Co.'s 14.

We were led in scoring by junior guard Trey Tinsley's 19 points and followed by Ollie Roberts, Brady Clemons, Ethan Saltsman and Ethan Meredith, all with 12 points.  Leading rebounder was Ethan Saltsman with 10.  Ollie Roberts led with 9 assists and the team had 20 for the game.  The McDonald's Player of the Game was 6'5 senior Ollie Roberts who had 12 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals.
