2-1 Last Week

In our 3 games last week we won 2 and lost 1.  Our loss coming to Apollo High School by the score of 54-51.  Our two wins came against district rival Butler Co. 63-51 and Cumberland County 81-50.

A bad shooting night did us in vs a very big and talented Apollo team.  We were 5-29 from the 3 point line and shot 32% from the field.  We also had an off night at the free throw line by making 6 of our 13 attempts.  We forced Apollo into 29 turnovers and that allowed us to stay in the game.  We played from behind most of the night and with 2:30 to play the score was tied 50-50.  We couldn't convert on our end and Apollo scored a basket and hit 2 free throws for their final 4 points.  We had the ball with a chance to tie with a 3 at the buzzer but did not get off a good shot.  Ollie Roberts and Ethan Saltsman had 14 points each to lead us.

BUTLER COUNTY:

On Friday, Jan. 6th we traveled to Morgantown to play our second game against Butler Co.  We defeated Butler by 20 in the season opener at our place, but was looking for a much tougher game on the road.  We got off to a great start and build an 11 point lead at the end of the 1st quarter and the game was never very close after that.  We made shots, rebounded and played good defense for most of the night and coasted to a win on the road.  We were up 20 with about 3 minutes to play and we subbed in our younger players and they cut the lead to 12.  We had very good balance with Ollie and Ethan S. leading us with 12 points, Trey Tinsley score 11 and Ryne Tinsley pitched in with 10.  Brady Clemons had 7, followed by Ethan Meredith and Bret Johnston with 5 a piece.  We had 16 assists on the night with Ollie and Brady getting 4 a piece to lead our team.  We out rebounded Butler 35-28 on the night and our 2 big guys led us, Ollie with 10 and Ethan Saltsman with 8.  Brady continued his fine all around play by leading us in steals with 4.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY:

We participated in the McDonald's Hoopin it Up Classic at Adair County on Saturday, Jan. 7th.  We defeated Cumberland County 81-50.  We were very sloppy early and was down 35-30 at the half with our jv team getting most of the playing time in the 1st half.  Our younger kids played very hard and kept us in the game while our varsity guys had time to set and watch and think about their lack of effort on the floor.  The second half was a much different story as we outscored Cumberland 51-15 and won going away by 31 points. Ollie Roberts scored 21 points and collected 8 rebounds to lead us in both categories.  Trey followed Ollie with 14 and Ethan Meredith chipped in with 11 (all coming in the second half).  Brady Clemons led with 5 assists.
