In front of our biggest home crowd of the year we defeated Edmonson County 49-47. We played our 2nd game in a row without Wes Smith and continued to struggle without him in our lineup. The game was close throughout and neither team led by more than 5. The score was much lower than we like it but it usually is when we play Edmonson County because each possession is so highly contested.
The game was tied at 47-47 with 2:05 to play and we decided to hold the ball for the last shot. Edmonson County was sagging in their man to man and allowed us to hold the ball for the last possession. We called timeout with 6.6 seconds to play. When we inbounded the ball to Travis, we went to our 1-4 low set and just let Travis go one on one. His only instructions was to make sure we had the last shot. The worst case scenario for us was overtime and we felt good being at home if that was the case. Travis drove to about 12 feet and shot an off balanced jumper against very good defense by Edmonson's Aaron Duncan. The result was nothing but net and we escaped at the buzzer with a 2 point win.
For the game we shot 19-48 for 39% and was 8-12 from the line for 68%. Edmonson County shot 17-36 for 47% and 10-14 from the line for 71%. The difference in the game was rebounding as we pulled down 28 rebounds to 22 for EC, but we had 10 offensive rebounds to their 3. Besides the last shot by Travis, the two biggest plays were offensive put backs by Dustin Thomas and Hunter Gary in the 4th quarter. We were led in rebounding by Bennett Skaggs with 6 while Travis Johnston, Aaron Deviney, Lance Buckler and Seth Bratcher had 4 each. We committed 10 turnovers to Edmonson County's 13.
Travis Johnston was chosen Player of the Game by scoring 22 points, dishing out 5 assists and coming up with 4 steals.
